The Antigua Finca Pulcal, rooted in history on Hacienda Carmona since 1541, has a story that spans generations. Initially focusing on various agricultural products, the farm transitioned to Arabica coffee in the late 1800s under the ownership of the Zelaya family. In 1918, it marked a milestone as Guatemala's coffee made its debut in the global market.
Preserving its heritage, the plantation cultivates original varieties like red and yellow Bourbón and Typica. Located in the unique microclimate and elevated soils of the Antigua Valley, Café Pulcal undergoes careful processing with mountain spring water.
The estate takes a proactive cultivation approach, spacing coffee trees and implementing a strategic pruning cycle every three years. This ensures a healthy balance, allowing light and air to nourish trees and integrating new plants without disrupting roots.
Since 1959, Maria Zelaya Aguirre, the third-generation owner, has dedicated herself to Hacienda Carmona, honoring her family's legacy and showcasing a deep love for coffee. Today, overseen by Luis Pedro Zelaya and Ricardo Zelaya, the estate includes a wet mill and dry processing at Finca Santa Clara. Beyond coffee, it's home to Carmona Trails and a Dairy Farm, undertaking replanting efforts to introduce new varieties like Java, San Francisco, and Villa Sarchi in recent years.
Clean Coffee
Clean Coffee
We believe coffee should be both delicious and responsibly sourced. That’s why we only work with specialty-grade coffees that are carefully harvested, dried, and stored. Once processed, every lot is sealed in GrainPro bags to protect it from moisture during transit and storage.
The result is clean, safe coffee that reflects the care of everyone involved. Some people have asked us about things like mold or mycotoxins, especially ochratoxin A (OTA), which can form in poorly handled coffees. It’s a fair question, but in coffees of this quality, stored and roasted the way we do, the risk is extremely low.
If you’d like to know more, we’re happy to share additional information. Just ask, we’re all about keeping things open and honest.
