Mokha Matari is a standout Yemeni coffee, layered with deep sweetness and rustic intensity, threaded with herbs, spice, and savoury depth. The dry fragrance spans a wide spectrum—date syrup, sesame snaps, and halva dusted with cinnamon, alongside muscat grape and honey. Once brewed, the aroma deepens into bittersweet cocoa, brown sugar, worn leather, and warming spice notes of chai, cardamom, and mace.
In the cup, Matari evolves constantly, carrying a bittersweet roast backbone that grounds the coffee’s more expressive flavours. As it cools, baked-good notes emerge, date bars, pumpkin and zucchini bread—balanced by savoury accents of pistachio and toasted pepitas. Fragrant spice continues to unfold, recalling garam masala, chai, and seven-spice blends, adding warmth and complexity.
As with all Yemeni coffees, Matari benefits from rest after roasting, finding its full depth and nuances revealing themselves after a minimum of 72 hours.
